Type of Work
The facilities management of a sixth form college in Colchester, Essex contacted Misty Glaze to carry out their double glazing window repairs. After arranging a site meeting, Mark and William the installation manager attended site to find out the requirements.
Colchester is always a nice area to travel too, as it has accessible road links to and from Misty Glaze HQ in High Ongar, Essex.
The college provided Misty Glaze with a list of rooms within the building that had broken windows that required some attention.
We discovered a broken double glazed sealed unit that had been hit by a lawnmower stone, this was toughened safety glass that was broken on the outside. There were also a number of broken window locking mechanisms, broken window hinges and broken window handles, which were causing draft.
A proposal to perform initial tests on any window repairs was sent to the college, as there were a number of window parts that were now obsolete. We had to retro fit different window locks to make the windows fully functional.
Scope of works:
- Toughened safety glass, double glazed sealed unit, A-rated specification.
- Special order Espagnolette thin channel window locking mechanism + new lock keeps.
- Friction stays window hinges.
- Lockable window handle with new key.
We managed to replace the broken double glazed unit and then perform a test fix on one of the other damaged windows, by installing a new full locking mechanism, a window handle and a pair of friction stay window hinges. We were more than happy to accomodate a test repair to ensure all parts of the window are fully functional, before committing to additional work to the other broken windows.
Misty Glaze was recently given the green light to carry out the remaining repairs on the window locks, hinges and handles. We are looking forward to a good working relationship with our new Colchester clients.
Misty Glaze have developed successful working partnerships with a number of schools and colleges within London, Essex and Hertfordshire.
