CAN I CHANGE MY LEADED GLASS IN MY WINDOWS TO CLEAR + UPGRADE TO A RATED SPEC

Our most recent project took place at 5 bedroom detached property in Loughton Essex.

Our client had aluminium windows throughout the house that were over 30 years in age, mainly all finished with square lead pattern.

There was over 30 units that the seals had blown on, leaving them to become Misty and Cloudy, our client wanted to change some things around by having the back windows in the house replaced in clear glass instead of the square leads, so they could enjoy the Epping Forest views and Greenery from there very nice manicured garden
There was a total of 68 Double Glazed Sealed Units that we were replacing, so our client asked about the A rated specifications available, we arranged some samples, as when you change from clear glass to Low E and Soft coat products, certain manufactured glass comes with a very noticeable BLUE HAZY TINT when the sun shines on the glass. We always like our clients to see what they are ordering when going down the A rated route of glass specs.
We always try to recommend the Planitherm Total + Glass by Saint Gobain, as this is the most clearest glass available in todays market in our opinion.

We did show our client the other well known soft coat glass, and with no surprise her exact words were “ WOW, I AM GLAD YOU GAVE ME THE OPTION AND DIDN’T SUPPLY ME WITH THAT GLASS, I HELD IT UP IN THE SUN LIGHT AT THE WEEKEND AND WAS SHOCKED TO SEE HOW BLUE AND HAZY IT WAS, I WANTED TO ENJOY MY VIEWS OF THE GARDEN”

She decided on the Planitherm Total + for the internal pane, followed by a clear glass on the external, separated with a 12mm Black Thermix Warm edge Spacer Bar, and filled with Argon Gas, this will help to achieve more thermal insulation throughout the Windows, the windows at the front of the property had 9mm silver square oval leads, which we matched up to correspond with the existing ones

After 3 days of hard work from our installation team, we managed to get great results, and successfully restore the 30 year old window frames with a simple affordable glass replacement, our client had saved over £40,000 from having complete new Aluminium windows, we also replaced all of the Back wedge Rubber Gaskets on the inside of the windows to make the new glass specification perform to its maximum capabilities.

So if you do decide to have some new windows and doors, we advise that you inspect the Low E + Soft coat glass on offer, and check in the sunlight to make sure your aware of the Blue Hazy tints, many of times we are called in to inspect glass units in brand new windows and doors that are only a few weeks old, and customers ask us if that hazy look is right. Our answer is, always find out from your preferred company that is carrying out the works for you, to supply you with the exact make and manufacturer of glass that you will be getting to avoid any disappointment, and double check online of the latest reviews and info on that product.

Our client was left overwhelmed with the transformation we had done on the windows, light and airy rooms with great views, THAT’S WHAT WINDOWS ARE FOR, RIGHT??

This is the kind email message we received from Tracy
“CAN I JUST SAY THANK YOU AGAIN FOR ALL YOUR HELP, WE ARE THRILLED WITH THE WINDOWS, THEY HAVE MADE SUCH A DIFFERENCE, IT WAS A PLEASURE TO HAVE SOMEONE AS PROFESSIONAL AS YOU AND MISTY GLAZE TO DEAL WITH, AND WOULD RECCOMEND YOUR SERVICES WITHOUT ANY HESITATION. KIND REGARDS. TRACY”

MY WINDOWS ARE OVER 20 YEARS OLD, CAN THEY BE REPAIRED

The most common enquiries our office staff receive on a daily basis is “ my windows are 10 to 15 years old, can they be repaired” my windows are between 20 to 30 years old, I have been told that I need to replace the frames and that they are unrepairable and you cannot just change the glass”

The answer is a very big YES! We can restore your windows no matter what age!!

This following blog post will answer all of the questions, if your existing windows are double glazed and are either, Upvc, timber or aluminium we can restore them by just replacing the glass or the broken parts, hinges, handles, locks ETC

Our latest project was for a client that inherited a Victorian property from his parents in the leafy suburbs of Woodford Green on the outskirts of London

On arrival to survey the Doors in question, we was amazed to see some very big looking Timber doors that had Two Misty glass units with Hinges and Glass sizes that you do not see every day!!!

Our Client explained that the doors were installed by his Father in 1960, and that he wanted to keep them as the held sentimental value to him

They were double glazed and were made up of 4mm clear float glass on the external and internal panes, separated by a 6mm silver spacer bar, two of the panes had failed and become Misty

He then told us the same story we hear on a daily basis “ I have had 2 well respected window companies come to inspect the doors and they said that the Glass cannot be replaced and that you should be looking to upgrade to the new bi fold doors, at the cost of between £5,000 to £10,000”

This Client wasn’t intrested in hearing anything else but “Yes we can restore your doors and just replace the glass”

After the order was placed and 3 weeks later, the installation took place, it took around 4 hours to replace the 2 units, as our installation team were aware of the Age and value these doors were to our customer, luckily we did change the Glass as many years ago Toughened safety glass wasn’t compulsory in Doors and Windows, and taking the existing glass out was a very dangerous and delicate process

We replaced the Glass in 4mm Toughened safety glass on the internal and external panes, making them extremely safe and user friendly now!!

We finished the external panes in external grade Dow Corning Anthracite grey 7016 RAL Colour Silicone to match the existing paintwork, our client was so happy with the end results and very grateful that we restored these wonderful doors

So when our Customers call us and ask those questions regarding the age of there windows, the answer is we can fully restore your windows, no matter what age by just simply replacing the Glass

The above project was the oldest product we have worked on to this date, at over 55 years old and successful results, we can most certainly help you too!!

Have a look at our before and after pictures of the wonderful doors, look at the size of the hinges, they certainly do not make them like this anymore!!!

Sound proof + Thermal Insulating Glass spec from Saint Gobain

Sound proof + Thermal Insulating Glass spec from Saint Gobain

One of our most recent projects at Misty Glaze was a Client that lives 1 mile from Stanstead Airport, after our site survey the client was very specific on the results he wanted to achieve from us

The existing windows were upvc and around 15 to 20 years old, external Glazed with a clip in bead system and a back wedge gasket on the inside

We discussed the noise issues from the Aircraft and the heat loss from the standard existing glass at present which consisted of 4mm clear float glass on the internal and external panes, separated by a 20mm Aluminium spacer bar

After seeing Instruments on the window cills to measure Heat loss and Noise activity, we know this was going to be a challenging job and expectation to fulfil to make this customer happy!!

The client wanted the best Glass specification we could get, with the clearest of soft coat LOW E Glass, Low E Glass acts as a thermal property  that faces the interior of the window, there are many manufacturers and different ones available and are very noticeable in direct sunlight often described as a blue tint and very hazy!

He decided on having 6.8mm Stadip silence Acoustic Laminated Glass for the external pane, separated by a 18mm Black Warm Edge Spacer Bar, Followed by a 4mm Planitherm Total + Low E Glass for the internal pane, Filled with a Argon Gas, This level of Glass specification would drain the Aircraft noise and also Thermally insulate the interior of each room that had windows in, by choosing the Planitherm Total + Glass we was confident that this is by far the most clearest and discrete of Low e Glass available without having any Blue tints or haziness in the direct sunlight

After taking delivery of all 34 Double Glazed Sealed Units, our Installation team fitted all of the units within the Day

Our Client was amazed with the results and couldn’t believe the difference in just changing the Glass specification could achieve, Three well respected Double Glazing companies said that he would need to change the Frames and everything to get the results he wanted and at £20,000 for the full house to be done, luckily he called Misty Glaze and saved Thousands of Pounds

After our Installation we discovered that our client was  a Pilot for a well known Commercial Airline, he said jokingly that all the noise he makes when flying over his house as now gone thanks to our services!!!!
